PreCare , 2010
PreCare emerged from a tradition of occupying vacant buildings for temporary use. It operated as an intermediator between property-owners of temporary vacant premises and artistic or social initiatives in need of workspace.
Between 1999 and 2010 PreCare opened 14 large buildings - for a period of six months to five years - thereby providing workspace to over a hunderd initiatives.
The PRECARE project aimed to allow #emerging urban projects/artistic and social initiatives to use #workspaces in #temporary #unoccupied buildings.
By making these places available, we wanted to preserve and encourage the use of the city as a #laboratory. Well known examples are @cinemanova, Bains::Connective, VT in the former vet school.
The project has been discontinued in January 2010, partly because of the housing crises. Time for us to make place for initiatives addressing these, like #123Logementsasbl, @toestand_vzw and @communa_asbl in Brussels, @temporiuso in Milano
Precare took shape thanks to many. Some of the important resources (in random order) | kreeg vorm dankzij velen, waaronder (in willekeurige volgorde): Sandrine Blaise, Johan Moyersoen, Jim Segers, Thierry Decuypere, Mark Trullemans, Veronique Linard, @ludomoyersoen, Silvia Picard, Frederik Serroen, Nelly Alfandari, @giuliacantaluppi @thierrydecuypere @girl_magpie
PreCare was discontinued in January 2010. This website serves as its archive and toolbox that still proves relevant.
